2020 SONC Report: John Wubbel. The Convention committee continues to meet regularly. Negotiations with NMRA seem to be the biggest problem They insist that we cannot have our own registration fee but must pay the $150 NMRA Convention fee. What we get for our $150 is to be determined. You can attend one day for $50 to save money. Vendor room size, size and number of tables is still to be determined. We do not share in the registration fees. We can possibly realize $9,000 dollars from vendor table rentals, sales of convention cars and other items. Our expenses would come out of this such as the $1,000 vendor room rent. The one good thing is that NMRA is assuming all the risks. They may put our information on their web-site. Our welcome party negotiations will all be done by the NMRA. Hotel rooms cannot be reserved until March 1st. We still don’t know if you have to be an NMRA member to attend.

Future SONC Fund: We voted to acquire the remaining O Scale West cars as a fund raiser . Our cost is $50 each and will sell for $100 or more. This will be considered a donation to the fund. Several board members offered to participate. David Vaughn suggested that if we continue with Joint O Scale/NMRA Conventions, that may induce future hosts to handle the show.

Bruce and Rich Randall are working on O Scale modular layout standards. Rich will give a presentation at the Chicago March meet.

All Board members attending Chicago were requested to man our booth for 2 hour periods.

David Vaughn gave a brief update on his plan to promote O Scale. He will provide a copy of the plan to all board members and discuss it at the Chicago Meet. A painting will be presented to the Hill family for sponsoring the great Chicago Meets for so many years. We were all asked to donate to this project. The time of the Chicago OSK meeting will be determined by our President probably 7:00 am Saturday.

Our next meeting will be Monday, March 9, 2020 at 8:00 pm CST.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:05 pm CDT.

An informal bull session continued for another 30 minutes. The discusion was about the demise of the Chicago show and all the likely replacements such as Indy, Cleveland and even Kansas City. The recent experiences and future possibilities of each were discussed. No actions were taken as this was not a formal meeting.

Respectfully,

George Wallace Secretary
