Clubs and Groups
This list of clubs, museums, modular groups, organizations and rotating “round-robin” groups focus on O Scale 2 Rail model railroading. Some are formal and others are informal. Some are clubs with permanent layouts, modular layouts and home layouts or a combination. We do our best to provide the best information available while also protecting the privacy of those the contacts. We do provide enough information to make contact. We depend on you and the listed groups to keep the information current.

NMRA supports all Scales. Divisions There are over 150 NMRA Divisions – groups of NMRA members in local communities. Most hold regular meetings featuring interesting and informative presentations on subjects ranging from “how-to” clinics to prototype railroad slide presentations. Many also have a regular newsletter for members. Many NMRA Divisions also hold train shows open to all scales that include sales tables and operating display layouts. Regions There are 18 NMRA Regions across the globe and each Region is made up of many Divisions. Regions usually hold annual or semi-annual conventions which can include presentations and clinics, as well as tours to model layouts, prototype tours, and even banquets and swap meets. All Regions have a member newsletter. National Every summer the NMRA National Convention brings together its members for a week of clinics, contests, layout tours, prototype excursions, the National Train Show®, and dozens of other exciting activities. Every year it’s held in a different city, so it makes an ideal family vacation. In addition the monthly NMRA Magazine will also be available on line soon. The NMRA has extensive educational information on line for all scale. Additional member only information included modeler contact information as well as EduTrain recorded clinics. NMRA continues to maintain model railroad standards and provides additional recommended practices information on many topics for all scales. One of the best parts of the NMRA is the frequent opportunities to interact with other modelers in person and on line. O Scale Central is also a Special Interest Group within the NMRA. |

Our highly-detailed model train layouts represent prototypical scenery in Northern and Central California. We run both freight and passenger trains typical of the steam era through modern day diesels. Our three main modeling scales are O scale (1:48), HO scale (1:87) and N scale (1:160). The O Scale layout is 4000 sq. ft., with four divisions in different levels, over 5000ft of hand laid track. We operate with either DC or DCC. Layout and signal control via JMRI. We also have an interurban electric line. The On3 scale layout occupies over 400 square feet of our building. It is intended to capture the flavor of the western mining and logging railroads. It also operates DC or DCC. The O Scale members generally meet on Friday afternoons and evenings for work projects. We run trains every Sunday, April through December, from noon to 5pm. We are also open Saturdays (noon to 5 p.m.) for viewing the displays, but no trains will be running. We are closed Christmas Eve/Day and New Years Eve when those fall on regular open days. Admission Prices: $5 for Adults, $3 for Children. We offer a non-membership Annual Pass for Frequent Visitors to the museum at $29.00 a year for individuals and $45.00 for families. The Annual Pass provides free admission for 12 months to all our shows during our operating season April – December. Dues for Full Membership are currently $240 per year for Seniors (over 18) and Families (up to 2 adults and 4 children under 14 living in the same household). |

It is a freelance model of an imaginary prototype running between San Diego and Sacramento. The layout was redesigned in 1986 and is being built in place, section by section, giving visitors a first hand view of model railroad construction. The layout features a electric trolley line which actually receives power from the overhead catenary system. There is also an operating brass sculptured water fountain in front of the main terminal. Our members come from all regions of Florida to include Southeast Georgia. Our modular railroad provides our members a platform to operate their equipment. We are actively seeking members to help with set up and operation, we also encouraged to individuals to build a module, but is not requirement. There are no annual dues but we are 100% NMRA and require membership to maintain our status as such. |

The layout is a point to point operation squeezed into a 25 x 75 space. The layout is traditional in every sense of the word. It is a straight DC operation with the layout divided into power blocks, our only surrender to modernity is that some of our lever/cable/counterweight switch machines have been converted to Tortoise machines. We operate on a time schedule train order basis which requires 5 yard operators and 3 main line cab operators as a minimum for satisfactory operation. From time to time we include switch lists to make it even more interesting. Our goal is to operate a real railroad in miniature. We meet every Monday night from 7:30 to 9:30 (except for major holidays). Many Monday nights are operating sessions interspersed with maintenance sessions as necessary. We also have an operating session on the first Saturday of every month from 10:30 am to approx. 1:00 pm. All sessions are open to the public. Our monthly dues are $20 and we currently have memberships open. |

The layout consists of 6’ x 24” portable straight modules with 84” radius curved modules that are constructed of lightweight Luan plywood based upon schematics as printed in O Scale News in the early 1990s of the CHAOS (Chicago O Scale Module Club). The layout is generally displayed in an 18’ x 45’ oval configuration and is fully sceniced with representations of the1930s – 1950s Southeastern and Northeastern regions of the U.S. We presently operate both DC and NCE DCC equipment and run standard locomotives and rolling stock. Any member may bring his/her models to operate and share with the group. We generally have meets 1-2 times a month and attend a train show or exhibit 1-2 times each year. Memberships are offered to anyone that submits a member application and participates in the club activities. There are no formal dues, but donations are welcomed. We boast the longest and most detailed O Scale 2-rail U.S. military train (WWII & Korea) in the country. Anyone that is interested in 2-rail O Scale is welcome. There is no admission fee. |

Massachusetts Clubs

Operation uses NCE Digital Command Control, line-side signals, and a computerized Dispatch center. A new yard, industries, scenery and structures continue to be added. New members are welcome. We also sponsor an annual Fall Open House and participate in the “Tour de Chooch” event in November. The club’s schedule of events includes Wednesday evening work sessions, monthly Saturday work sessions, monthly operating sessions and a members-only bi-monthly business meeting. The model railroad is loosely based on the ill-fated actual Southern New England Railroad, also known as the “Titanic Railroad”. The layout is a double track main line generating freight traffic from many on-line industries which is consolidated in the “Roland Roberts” main yard and then dispersed to other locations throughout the rail system, both modeled and imagined. The state of the art design provides a linear walk-around model railroad using the “mushroom” technique to greatly increase running length (850’). It’s a great operating design and continues to provide interesting model railroad construction opportunities for the membership. Several of our members are also interested in narrow gauge, both On3 and On30. We sponsor an annual O scale Train show held in Hudson, MA, every April. The current layout, the Detroit Union Railroad, was started in 1974 when the club moved to its current location at 104 North Saginaw Street in Holly, MI, 48442. The club owns the 4,000 square foot former movie theatre in which it resides. The Detroit Union Railroad currently has 6,500 feet of hand laid track and operates with an NCE DCC system. The railroad has 7½ feet of elevation change from the lowest point to the highest point. The Detroit Union Railroad features a 900 foot long mainline, about 55% double track and 45% single track. A 14 track double ended working classification yard with a 420 freight car capacity as well as an 11 track passenger terminal with a 116 passenger car capacity are featured. The railroad also has a 12 track hidden staging yard and three branch lines, one of which is 200 feet long. There is a local yard with a 100 freight car capacity serving a large industrial complex with 46 designated car spots as well as 20 other local car spots. Mainline freight trains of up to 50 cars can be accommodated. There is also an On3 branch line serving a mountain area. The Detroit Model Railroad Club is a 501c3 corporation and gladly accepts donations. The club usually operates 19 public open house dates. Several classes of membership are available. The public is welcome to drop by on any Tuesday evening, and have a look around, but be aware that there may not be any activity on the layout other than the ongoing repair work. |

Regular meetings/Operating Sessions are held on the third Saturdays of each month at 1:30pm, unless rescheduled by a majority vote of the membership present at the previous meeting and announced in the club newsletter. New York Clubs

Our club layouts have seen significant changes as a result of work on the building the layout is located in. This is a good thing and has provided us the opportunity to make some changes. Our next open house should be an interesting one for both returning and new visitors alike! In the meantime, if you’re interested in joining the club, there’s never been a better time since parts of the layout are being rebuilt from the benchwork on up! The O scale layout occupies a 20′ x 25′ area and will include On3 Narrow Gauge and Standard Gauge Freight and Traction. The 3′-gauge line will serve a coal mine. The Standard Gauge line has been expanded with a longer mainline run and interchanges freight with the 3-foot line. The Traction runs trolleys from a small city to a lakeside resort area. Scenery represents an Appalachian setting with heavily forested hills. Steam powered trains predominate on the Narrow Gauge and wooden interurbans are powered from the overhead trolley wire. |

Pennsylvania Clubs

Our membership has many vocations but as rail enthusiasts, our common bond is the flanged wheel on the steel rail. The Society’s objectives are to promote cooperation, fellowship and understanding to persons who are interested in Model Railroading, obtain facilities for meetings, discussions, exchange of information, construction and operation of model railroads. The first floor 650 square foot layout features models of O, On30 and S scale steam trains from the glory days of railroading to the mighty diesel locomotives of today, including prototype sights and sounds. Operating semaphores and signals further enhance the display. Visitors can even operate specific accessories. The second floor 800 square foot HO scale display has a multitude of trains in operation, including a loaded coal train stretching to more than 100 cars powered by multiple diesel locomotives winding through mountain scenery. A miniature trolley travels between a village and a distant amusement park with both an operating ski lift and rides. Visitors can operate the park train, too. We meet Tuesday evenings at 7:30p.m. The Public is always welcome. The first Tuesday of each month is a business meeting. The other Tuesdays are either work or operating sessions. Membership in our Society is open to all persons with an interest in model railroading. Memberships are available starting at $15.00 a year. Description: The East Penn Traction Club, Inc. (a nonprofit Pennsylvania corporation) is a group based in the Philadelphia Delaware Valley, USA, with over 300 members from the local area and around the country. Members share a common interest in the history and modeling of electric powered rail transit vehicles, known more affectionately as trolley cars. The models actually take their operating current off of the miniature overhead wire, just as the real ones do. East Penn is perhaps best known for its adoption and promotion of modular layouts, having refined the standards formulated by the late Everitt F. Wood in 1969. These standards allow individually-built, portable sections to be connected with each other. This concept allows the quick assembly of large layouts capable of complex operating possibilities. Modular layouts are well suited to the sharp curves, short trains and compact scenery typical of real electric transit lines. The layouts, built in 1:87 (HO gauge), 1:48 (O gauge), 1/2", and 3/4" scales, are familiar to those who have attended hobby shows along the East Coast, and have done much to introduce trolley, interurban, and rapid transit modeling to the general public. In the spring of odd numbered years, the club sponsors the largest trolley-only model meet in the country. The meet draws the premier modelers and model trolley manufacturers from all over the country for a weekend of viewing models, layouts, films, photos, slides, model contests, and �how-to� clinics on subjects ranging from hanging trolley wire to modeling subway cars. In addition, the latest in trolley kits, parts, bodies, etc. are offered for sale as is prototype data such as photos and books. Check our Meet Page for the latest on this event. The club also sponsors periodic fan trips over local transit systems featuring rides on everything from the latest state-of-the-art electric transit vehicles to carefully restored historical cars. A popular yearly trolley calendar featuring photographs of various regional trolley lines is also produced by the club and sold to members and the general public. The club meets the first Friday of every month from September through June. Meetings are typically held at various members� homes or public meeting places (church or fire hall, etc.). Members receive a monthly newsletter covering club activities and the location of the monthly meetings. A subsidiary line of the Canadian Pacific operating in Ontario’s near north Sudbury/Manitoulin Island Region; also known as the Nickel belt region. The layout features two 400′ main lines; CPR/AER and CNR in a 2000 square foot area (33′ by 63′). The layout includes; 3 turntables, an interurban area and a branch line, plus an interchange yard between the two main lines with a helix into the storage yard and port facility. We are open for Hamilton’s “DOOR’S OPEN” seeking new membership, all inclusive. We model the steam/diesels transition era of late 50’s early 60’s. The display grew to over 3000 square feet and operated in Aberfoyle until its last show in May 13th 2012. With the land that housed Aberfoyle Junction being developed the display desperately needed a new home. With help and generosity of a few key people it was decided that the Display would have a new home in St. Jacobs. The display was then cut into 51 sections and moved over 40km’s away to its present location in downtown St. Jacobs.
