Robert Kjelland switched from N scale to O scale at the age of 23, having seen an Atlas F9 on display at a small train show. Since then he has built and displayed sectional O scale layouts and now is working on a home layout in an area of roughly 1,000 square feet.
Robert grew up in Valley City, North Dakota, where the Northern Pacific and Soo line crossed paths. He earned a degree in Business Management and Leadership from the University of Mary. He was the editor of a daily newspaper and subsequently became Director of Communications for North Dakota Farmers Union, a general farm organization focusing on legislative and educational programs for farm and ranch families.
Today he is the Director of Communications for Rocky Mountain Farmers Union and lives an hour north of Denver, Colorado. He has won awards for writing, photography, design... and for his O scale models. He and his wife Maria have five adult children. Bob and Maria enjoy travel, live music, and taking care of their clowder of Maine Coon cats.
